Last year I decided I needed to go to fashion university if I wanted to take my fashion brand further, one year on and my first year studying a degree in Savile Row bespoke tailoring at London College of Fashion is over!
For the past 4 years I have been working with manufacturers in London and New York but I knew if I wanted to take my brand further I had to stop relying on manufacturers and start making my clothes myself so that I can delve deep into experimenting and creating my own world of fantasy and work to building my own Maison.
I was a bit nervous applying as I didn't have any qualifications, I left school at 16 and didn't go to college, but what I did have was 4 years experience building my fashion brand and entering 20 countries across the world which enabled me to attend the university without qualifications.
I decided to study Savile Row bespoke tailoring because it is the highest form of craftsmanship alongside Haute Couture, and the path that my greatest inspiration Alexander McQueen took on his journey to becoming a fashion designer.
Savile Row bespoke tailoring is focused on traditional hand craftsmanship, with garments taking weeks to months to be completed due to the hours upon hours you spend moulding the garment by hand, shaping it to the wearers body.
These clothes are unlike anything most people have experienced as the world has moved to box standard, fast as possible made clothing that is designed to fit everyone, but really fits no one in the way clothing should fit and make you feel.
Growing up I realised how clothing makes you feel, how wearing ill-fitting clothes is perceived by others and how you are treated for it so I know how important it is to have clothing that is tailored to you.
I have always had a petite body for a man and clothing has always felt... off. It never fit properly and I had to deal with awkward sizing that made me feel uncomfortable. It really rocks your confidence and image of yourself when everything makes your body feel wrong so I decided to study bespoke tailoring because I knew that is where I would learn what I wanted to, where I could learn how to shape and mould fabric to make you feel like you have never felt before and give the confidence to shine.
Since starting I have learned exactly that and I am really excited to get started on my first bespoke collections in the second year and start sharing them with you.
At Alexander Night, we understand the importance of maintaining the quality and integrity of your new organic cotton Shibari ropes.
With our organic Aegean cotton Shibari ropes exclusively woven for Alexander Night in Germany, care and attention to detail are essential to ensure longevity and optimal performance. In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps to properly wash and care for your ropes, keeping them clean, soft, and ready for your next Shibari session.
Step-by-Step Instructions on How to Wash your Cotton Shibari Rope:
1. Soak in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, leave to sit for up to 20 minutes and then agitate the ropes gently without pulling or tugging on the fibres. Do not rub them together.
3. After soaking, rinse your ropes thoroughly with clean water to remove any remaining residue. It's essential to rinse the ropes well to ensure that no cleaning solution is left behind, which could cause irritation or discomfort during use.
4. Once rinsed, gently squeeze out excess water from your ropes and hang them to air dry in a well-ventilated area. Avoid exposing them to direct sunlight or heat sources, as this can cause the fibers to weaken or shrink.
