Why we create 100% certified organic Aegean cotton Shibari rope

An art that heals the mind, should not harm the body. This is the simplest way to explain why we create our Shibari rope with the finest 100% certified organic Aegean cotton, known to be the highest quality of cotton in the world alongside Pima cotton.

However, the exceptional quality of this cotton is not the only reason we create our Shibari rope from it. The main reason is because 100% certified organic cotton is grown and produced in a way that is completely and truly ethical, sustainable and free of any and every substance that may be harmful to human health.

Akame Red Shibari Rope

Due to it being certified by a governing body such as GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) we are able to ensure to you that it is what we say it is and we can trace it all the way back through the supply chain to the farm it was grown on. This traceability allows us to see its path from seed all the way to when it was woven into the most beautiful rope with a natural lustre unlike any other making it the best rope for aesthetic based Shibari, bondage and light suspension.

Products that are polyester, nylon, conventional cotton, Jute, bamboo, hemp and are not labelled as certified organic will contain toxic dyes, toxic chemicals, insecticides, pesticides, carcinogenic substances (cancer causing agents) which will stay in the textile you are using and slowly be absorbed into your body. When practicing Shibari it is common practice to put the rope over sensitive body parts and wrapped very tightly around your body and against your skin in key areas such as the genitals, armpits, inner thigh, inner arms, wrists, ankles and your spine which has nerves and roots that send signals directly to your brain, your organs and your limbs. In these areas the skin barrier is thinner and there are important body functions such as glands and nerves which you do not want absorbing these harmful substances over time.

We use and advocate for the usage of 100% certified organic cotton because it is free of any and every product that is harmful to human health and may cause life altering disease.

The other reason is because lack of traceability, lack of integrity, oppression, child labour and the use of plastics are rife within the fashion industry and brands lie, use greenwashing and other tactics to ensure you purchase their product. They use these methods to provide a cheaper product that ensures you buy it, and buy a lot of it because you think you are no longer contributing to the oppression of the most oppressed people within our society.

Within the fashion industry less than 2% of garment workers are paid a liveable wage. Over 60% of textiles created each year are polyester (soft plastic produced with oil) versus less than 1% of textiles being certified organic.

Due to the widespread malpractice within the fashion industry governing bodies such as GOTS were created so that we know exactly what we are putting on our bodies and to ensure it is free of child labour, oppression, GMO's, pesticides, insecticides, products harmful to human health and the planet. Governing bodies enforce strict social and environmental guidelines from production to farm as well as work to convert previously unethical and unsustainable supply chains to being ethical and sustainable thus liberating the oppressed from oppression.
